Is My Budget Realistic?

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

Construction costs are always rising, and when budgeting for your project, often the first item that gets thrown out the window is assistance form a professional. This is never a wise decision, even if your project and budget are modest.

When someone refers to a building as being “architect designed” we immediately think of big-budget and high-end homes. But this is not actually the case. An architect can assist you whether your budget is modest or unlimited, by ensuring you get the best value out of your project.

Your architect's fee will depend on their level of expertise and the level of their involvement in your project. Usually full architectural services will include everything from the initial design, through to completion, and would be around 5% to 15% of the total construction cost. Of course this will depend on the size and complexity of the project.

Sometimes all you need from your architect are some ideas to unlock the potential your property holds, or some assistance resolving small details or complications during the construction phase. In these cases, most architects are willing to negotiate a fee for partial services.

I firmly believe that clients will almost always recover the cost of their architect when things like quality, livability and durability are measured and given value.

If you are thinking about building an new home for your family, or simply want to update your current home, XO Architects will be able to assist in ensuring you get the best value form your project, no matter how big or small it may be.
